I figured that since I'm between sewing projects right now (well...except for those pants) it would be a good time to start cutting out my Amy Butler Weekender bag. I've been agonizing for a while about the Timtex....you're supposed to sew it in but that makes for bulky seams. Now Amy has new instructions to use Peltex which is a fusible so it's not in the seams. I always thought that having the Timtex floating around was not really going to work & I wondered if I could fuse it to the fabric using some sort of fusible web. So that was going to be my plan. Until I discovered I didn't have enough Timtex. Ergh. I've got enough for the pockets and handles so I've done the pockets and am now the proud owner of two huge surfboards. Yeah, that's about the size & feel of them! I discovered that my fabric frays like anything so now need to zig zag around all the cut edges. I also made major piping errors but I won't go into that suffice to say that I've unpicked lots of piping in the past day.
Anyway...I've also been thinking about my trip later this year to the USA. I mainly go there for an embroidery retreat which is held every 2 years on the last weekend in September in Park City, Utah. I've been 3 times now. It's funny...cos everytime I come home, I feel a bit disappointed. It never seems to be how I envisage it will be. Don't get me wrong, I have a great time but I always feel it could be better. So to that end, I think I could easily give up that retreat. That got me thinking about other places I wanted to go. I've always wanted to go to the Sewing Expo in Puyallup, WA. It's in February - a good time to fly for us - it's off-peak! I'm thinking I could fly into Portland, OR, do some damage in the fabric shops there, drive up to Puyallup (it's only about a 3 hr drive), visit the expo for 4 days & then drive back to Portland (maybe some more fabric shopping???) and fly home.
I have visions of some of my sewing buddies coming too. Anyone interested?
